Black Canyon of the Gunnison the River and the Cliffs

This is a view of the Gunnison River as it flows at the bottom of the canyon.  The Black Canyon of the Gunnison has extremely steep cliff walls and some of the oldest rock in North America.   These canyon views, including this one, are easily accessible from the lookouts along the South Rim Road. This National Park is just north off US route 50 between the Curecanti National Recreation Area and Montrose, Colorado.

Evening Clouds Over Tenmile Range

Evening clouds form over the Tenmile Range as seen from Lake Dillon Colorado.  Tenmile Range is an extension of the Mosquito Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.   These two ranges are essentially the same with Tenmile on the western side of the Contential Divide and Mosquito on the east.

Clouds Over the Contental Divide Viewed Near Wondervu Colorado

Expressive storm clouds are forming over the Continental Divide near Eldora as seen from Wondervu, Colorado.  This picture was taken during the mid 1980's from Coal Creek Canyon Road, a very scenic highway that connects the Peak to Peak Highway near Nederland to the west Denver suburbs. Here I used a Minolta X body SLR and the resultant slide was later scanned at 4k with a Canon film scanner.  Much work was put into cleaning up the scanned image and I had to use noise reduction and HDR software to bring out the best of it.  While not perfect, I believe that the results were worth the effort.

Joshua Tree Rocks Boulders and Sky

At Joshua Tree National Park wispy clouds, rocks and boulders form a background to a spiky Joshua tree.  Small bushes and cacti are also visible.  Residual film grain can be seen in the sky as this image was scanned via a Canon film scanner and processed for noise before editing.

Great Sand Dunes Afternoon Mountains and Shadows

At Colorado's Great Sand Dunes National Park blue skies and mountains form a backdrop to dunes and shadows.  In the foreground is a field of grass and bushes.  These dunes, which are located northeast of Alamosa, are the tallest in North America.  To the south and east is Blanca Peak which is one of Colorado's many fourteeners.  This park is located in the middle of Southern Colorado near the New Mexico border.

Coal Bank Pass on the Million Dollar Highway

This is Coal Bank Pass along Colorado's Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Ouray.   This massively scenic and breathtaking highway between Ouray and Silverton is also called the San Juan Skyway.  The weather this day was overcast and cloudy and consequently allowed me to use HDR (High Dynamic Range) techniques in bringing out the vivid colors in this composite image.
